Monongalia County Schools upholds the state requirements for both locally provided and West Virginia Measures of Academic Progress (WV-MAP) as outlined in Policy 2340. Annually, all applicable educators complete assessment training and sign off on the WVBE testing code of ethics ensuring that all Schools and classrooms follow all testing guidelines and maintain the security of assessment materials and student data.
Monongalia County Schools administers benchmark assessments to students at all grade levels up to three times per school year. Group and individual data from benchmark assessments are used to plan for instruction and intervention.

The Assessment for students grades 3-8 is completed entirely online.
Students will test over multiple days, one test per day.

* The 3-8 WVGSA is computer-adaptive, such that how a student answers one question may determine the follow-up question, and features a set of questions from a testing vendor. This question bank will be supplemented by items designed by West Virginia Educators.

11th-grade Assessment - the summative assessment for students in grade 11 is the spring SAT school day assessment (initiated Spring 2018)
All Monongalia County students in grade 11 will be assessed on April 13, 2022.*
One make up day will be held on April 26, 2022
The assessment will take place at the students' home high school and will last roughly 4 hours.
Participating students may have the opportunity to use their results for college entrance determination.
*allowances for alternate days between 4/13 and 4/26 created for students receiving accommodations approved by CollegeBoard

West Virginia Alternate Summative Assessment (WVASA)
Students of the 1% population grades 3-8 and 11 are assessed on an alternate assessment called the Dynamic Learning Maps (DLM).
Like the WVGSA, all students grades 3-8 and 11 are assessed in ELA and Math. Additionally, students in grades 5, 8, and 11 take a Science test.
This test is administered to each qualifying student on an individual basis. The test can take multiple days and test sessions to administer.

Test of English Language Proficiency (ELPA21)
English Learners are assessed yearly to measure their proficiency in learning English. That assessment is the English Language Proficiency Assessment for the 21stCentury (ELPA 21). West Virginia is part of a 10 state consortium that administers the ELPA 21. The test is administered yearly between February and March. Students are scored on levels ranging from Emerging, Progressing, and Proficient. Scores are returned to the school system in August and sent home. English Learners will also participate yearly in WVMAP assessments. English Learners may qualify to receive accommodations for testing. National Assessment for Educational Progress (NAEP)
Often called the “Nation’s Report Card”, NAEP is the largest continuing and nationally representative assessment of what our nation’s students know and can do in core subjects. Participating schools and students are selected via a random sample. Results for NAEP assessments can be found at https://nces.ed.gov/nationsreportcard/naepdata/.
UPDATE: NAEP testing for 2021 has been postponed until 2022
